Cllr Mackie welcomes 'vital' Flybe takeover discussions

The future of the carrier has has been given as a result of public takeover talks by Virgin Atlantic.

The airline operates a number of city connect services from Inverness Airport as well as regional services from across the United Kingdom. Cllr Mackie, the Highland Conservative Transport Spokesperson, said "as a regular business traveller I used the daily service to Belfast City Airport whilst working as a consultant in Northern Ireland. It is an absolutely vital route for enterprise as well as a good option for leisure travellers." "Inverness has been a Flybe hub for some time and despite the codeshare agreement with Loganair being shelved (on services such as Wick to Edinburgh), the route map still ensures Highland is well linked to a number of strategically important connections to important industrial centres across the country. Ensuring the future of these vital airlinks is of paramount importance and I welcome the public announcement that ongoing discussions are being had." "Regardless of the ultimate takeover partner, the safeguarding of these routes is a key priority and my colleagues at both Highland Council and Holyrood will continue to support regional air links that benefit locals, business travellers and the tourist industry."
